Shards are very thin layers of broken glass. I make them by heating up a glob of glass to a molten state on the end of a tube mandrel. When it gets just right, I blow through the hole and create a hollow bulb, kind of like a balloon or Christmas ornament. After cooling, I break them up and place the different shapes onto the bead and melt them in. They can difficult to capture the metallic sheen when photographing due to the shape of the bead
